Fighting the winter blues

seasonal affective disorder

The days are getting shorter. Although we were blessed with an unusually warm Halloween this year, November was quick to throw snow on the ground and it hasn't looked back since. When you combine that with the clock going back an hour, we're now in that part of the year where it's dark when the kids leave for school, and it's dark again when the clock strikes supper.

I thought I'd take a minute to talk about SAD (seasonal affective disorder).

Why?

Well, I'm guessing a lot of my readers work in offices (probably a lot of home offices too), and spend a lot of time in front of a computer. When you leave for work in the dark, spend 8-10 hours in front of artificial light, and then go home in the dark...winter can be a bit depressing. It's important to make sure you take care of yourselves. And, if you are prone to getting a bit (or a lot) of the winter blues, it's good to know what you're up against, and maybe a few tips of making your winter a bit more bearable.

This time, instead of just getting my opinions, I wanted to share a couple posts with you on the subject.

Seasonal Affective Disorder: Study Discovers Biochemical Cause - Huffington Post Canada has a good article explaining the disorder.

Start Preparing Now to Avoid the Effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder - Lifehacker...one of my go-to sites for many years, had a good post a few years ago on some tips to fight the effects of SAD.

I hope you find these posts helpful. Feel free to share other helpful resources in the comments.
